Sauna Room Guide · Specification research, not hands-on testing · 2026-10-29
Start with the outdoor-rated model
Confirm that the exact configuration is intended for outdoor use. A cover, roof or sheltered wall does not automatically extend the manufacturer’s approved placement for an indoor-only product.
Record the cabin and roof dimensions separately where available. Include the direction of the entrance and room to access connections and service panels. The tool leaves undocumented dimensions unresolved.
Read the base and access requirements
Manufacturer documents can specify the supporting surface, drainage and access around or above the cabin. These requirements differ by model; our site screen does not replace a site assessment.
For the Luminar examples, the linked specification sheets discuss both the base and maintenance access. We do not turn the published heater input into a foundation design or assume all outdoor saunas use the same offsets.
Keep local permission questions local
Local siting, electrical and property restrictions need their own checks. A product-level dimension result does not approve a location, confirm permissions or establish a suitable circuit.
Prepare a drawing with the full envelope and ask the seller and relevant local professionals about the unresolved conditions. Add site work and delivery access to the project budget before choosing on price.
Draw an envelope, not just a rectangle
On the site sketch, distinguish the body, roof overhang, door opening and documented access zone. Mark nearby walls, fences and obstructions. If the manufacturer gives a range or a condition that depends on the site, retain the condition instead of choosing the smallest number automatically.
Then add the route from the delivery point and the place where work can be performed. A site can clear the cabinet dimensions yet leave an unresolved maintenance or delivery problem. Those questions remain visible in the plan.
The pad and the airspace are separate measurements
The current Luminar 2 and Luminar 5 assembly guides each call for a pad extending at least 6 inches beyond every side of the footprint. The guides give different side, rear and overhead allowances, so a pad that supports the cabin does not establish maintenance access. Confirm the loaded support requirement and drainage with the site professional.
Luminar 2 publishes a 4–6 inch side/rear range and a 20–24 inch roof range; Luminar 5 specifies at least 8 inches at the sides/rear and 12 inches overhead. Both require a fully opening door, but the reviewed tables do not supply one numeric front minimum. That remains a model-specific question.
